The United States has greenlit potential arms sales totaling $2.27 billion to three Middle Eastern countries—United Arab Emirates (UAE), Egypt, and Kuwait—as part of ongoing efforts to bolster regional defense capabilities amid heightened security concerns. The U.S. State Department’s approval includes various military equipment and support services aimed at enhancing these countries’ defense systems.

The most substantial of these proposed deals involves the UAE, with a value of approximately $1.041 billion. This package includes up to 10,000 Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System-II guidance sections, which can be configured for both air-to-air and air-to-ground use, along with essential related equipment and support. This deal underscores the UAE’s commitment to maintaining a robust defense posture in a region marked by persistent geopolitical tensions.

Meanwhile, Egypt has been approved for a potential $832 million acquisition of Javelin missile systems. This package comprises up to 2,020 Javelin FGM-148F missiles, including 20 designated for testing, and up to 200 lightweight command launch units. This deal is part of Egypt’s broader strategy to modernize its military capabilities and ensure readiness against various security threats.

Kuwait’s proposed arms deal, valued at $400 million, focuses on services related to Patriot missile repair and return. This includes necessary equipment and support services, reflecting Kuwait’s ongoing efforts to maintain and enhance its missile defense systems.

These proposed arms sales come at a time of increased regional security challenges, with U.S. partners in the Gulf and Middle East keen to fortify their defense capabilities. The deals align with the U.S. strategy of supporting allies in the region to ensure stability and deter potential threats.
